Keeping little minds motivated through the Summer can often be a daunting task, but these summer reading programs are an asset to any parent looking to offer incentives. Children can sign up with local programs or with online programs and work toward reading goals from now through August.
The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District will kick off is summer reading program on June 1st with events at branches across the district. Participants can pick up reading logs starting on June 1 and will have until July 31 to complete their reading goals and earn a FREE book. The program is open to readers ages 0 – 18 years of ages.
Henderson Libraries will be offering a summer reading program for children ages 0 – 17 beginning June 10 through August 5, 2017. Participants can sign up online or in person at one of the four branches in Henderson.
This years theme is Build A Better World, with an emphasis on architecture and engineering. Children are able to earn prizes for reaching reading goals throughout the summer.
Kids Earn a Free Book When They Read 8 at Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program is available for kids in grades 1 – 6. Participants can choose any books to read and earn a FREE book in three easy steps:
1. Read any eight books this summer and record them in your Summer Reading Journal (English or Español). Tell us which part of the book is your favorite, and why.
2. Bring your completed journal to a Barnes & Noble store between May 16th and September 5th, 2017. Find a Store
3. Choose your FREE reading adventure from the book list featured on the back of the journal.
Join the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge! Children (with your help) can log their reading minutes online and earn virtual prizes while having fun! Scholastic offers reading lists for all ages!
Sync has a summer reading program for teens, ages 13 and older. Participants can download two free audio books each week this summer.
Each week there will be a current young adult book as well as a classic title that teens will be able to download for free through the OverDrive app. The program ends on August 27.
Sylvan Learning’s Book Adventure is a fun, free way to motivate your child to read. Kids in grades K – 8 can search the company’s online database for books included in the program, read the book (offline), and return to take a quiz on what they have read. Children will earn prizes for their reading success.
