Know Before You Go

DO NOT USE GPS – DO NOT USE GPS

We can’t say this enough and Glittering Light has it posted everywhere. To be honest, we can’t say it enough because we have used GPS before and trying to find the North Star isn’t as easy as it may sound.

Directions to Glittering Lights
Print or Screenshot just in case.

  1. Take I-15 North
  2. Exit 54 (Speedway Blvd.), turn right
  3. Stay on Speedway Blvd for approximately 1⁄2 mile
  4. Merge to the FAR RIGHT LANE. Follow signs to Santa Tram entry

Will there be line?

Check wait times HERE.

In short, yes, especially on weekends and peak times.

There is a line to get all vehicles in safely and ready to drive through the lights. There are gift bags and car-side concession at the entry, so be prepared to allow time for holiday cheer when you arrive.

On especially busy nights,  please pack your patience and prepare the family with reindeer games in the car to keep the cheer going. (We’ve provided you with some fun printable options below!)

How long does it take to get through the lights?

The drive through the 2.5 miles of glittering lights takes about 40 minutes. Please do prepare for lines at entry, especially during peak times.

Are there restrooms?

A few speedway restrooms will be open to the public near the entry, however, there are no restrooms inside Glittering Lights, so please go before you drive through.

  • Go to the bathroom before you leave the house.
  • If you live across town, fill up with gas and use the restroom at the Petro/Sinclair station before you head into the lights. It’s lovely there and they have Mega Stuff Oreos.
  • There’s also a Maverik gas station at the Tropical Parkway exit, and they have nugget ice.
  • Ask the kids again at entry, you know how it goes … ask everyone actually.
  • If you have littles, pack that little potty. Better safe than sorry.

Is there food?

Concessions are available car side thanks to the Boy Scouts. A Boy Scout will take your order and deliver treats right at your vehicle. Don’t get out of the vehicle and don’t drive off until you get those treats.  Concessions include hot cocoa, hot cider, water, popcorn, kettle corn, light up necklaces, and souvenir ornaments.
You’ll also get a complimentary gift bag is you are one of the 1st 15,000 cars to go through Glittering Lights this year.

Concession earnings are donated to Southern Nevada area Boy Scout troops who are learning customer service skills and earning money for activities and camp by working this event.

What about dinner?

The closest restaurants are going to be off the 95 and Craig Rd. There is plenty of variety including Cracker Barrel, Texas Roadhouse, Burger King, Capriotti’s, Carl’s Jr, Famous Dave’s BBQ, Del Taco, Chipotle, Pieology, and more.

Can my child get out of the car seat?

This is one of the most common questions we get every year about this event. Ultimately the decision to turn your child forward facing, let them ride outside of the car seat, or let them ride without a seat belt, etc is up to you.

This is a private event, on a private road, where the top speed might by 2 miles per hour. Given that information, make the choice that is best for your family. There should be a staging area at the end of the lights for you to safely buckle all children in before exiting Glittering Lights.

What should we bring with us?

  • That little potty is you have smaller ones.
  • Snacks. You know the kids will be hungry again as soon as their popcorn is gone.
  • Baby wipes, paper towels.
  • Blankets to snuggle in while you ride. Its especially fun to open the windows and feel the crisp air as you drive through the 5 million lights.
  • Festive attire like Christmas pajamas, light up necklaces, and Santa hats. Take plenty of selfies in the car, safely, when you’re not the driver.
  • Holiday Cheer
  • The scavenger hunt we put together for you below. Print it out, grab some crayons and hand it out once you hit the lights. Glittering Lights will so give you a Wrapping Paper that has activities for the kids, so bring some markers, pens, and/or crayons.

Have the best time and don’t forget to tag us on Instagram and Facebook! We love sharing in your family fun all year. Let us know if these tips helped make your trip merrier this year.
