Did you know you could snow ski in Las Vegas? Less than an hour from the Las Vegas Strip is the Spring Mountains National Recreation area, or as it’s most commonly called, Mount Charleston. Part of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, the area is more than 316,000 acres. Further up the mountain, you can find lodging, dining, and even a ski resort.

Tips for the Trip
Winter on Mount Charleston brings recreational opportunities to Las Vegas residents and visitors. Heading up to Mt. Charleston for some snowy fun? Follow these tips for a safe and enjoyable trip.
- Check the weather
- Check road conditions
- Check your vehicle. Vehicles should be able to handle icy roads and slushy, snowy parking lots. You should be prepared with chains or snow tires.
- Fill up your tank. There is no gas on the mountain.
- Pack extra supplies including blankets, kitty litter, water, snacks and a change of clothing in case you get stuck.

Parking on the mountain is limited, and traffic congestion is common during peak visitor times, like weekends and holidays. Parking is only allowed in designated areas. Cars parked outside of designated parking areas are subject to fines and towing.
Choose a Side (of the mountain)
Kyle Canyon is the first exit to Mt. Charleston from US 95 heading North. This is the way to get to the Mt. Charleston Lodge and Resort at Charleston Peak. The Kyle Canyon Picnic Area and Fletcher View Campground (which are both fee areas) may be open for day use.
Lee Canyon is the best option for sledding. The second Mount Charleston exit from US 95 North heads to Lee Canyon. The very well known, local favorite Lee Meadows is great fun year round. There is also Bristlecone Trail for snowshoe hiking, Sawmill Picnic Area and several pullouts on Deer Creek Hwy/HWY 158.
Ski Mount Charleston
If you’re looking for guaranteed parking and organized fun, head to Lee Canyon LV, the ski resort on Mount Charleston. Not only can you ski and snowboard at Lee Canyon LV, but the resort also offers showshoeing, tubing and just simple snow play.
Purchase Tubing times online to avoid sellouts on arrival. Tubing sessions are 90 minutes. Riders must be at least 36” tall and must ride on their stomach. Tubing sessions are $30 per person.
If you just want to romp in the snow, then head to the Foxtail Day Use Snow Play Area. Open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., there is a cost of $25 per vehicle. Enjoy hillside snow play with parking, heated restrooms and concessions such as sleds, gloves and hot cocoa. Space is limited. First come, first served. Foxtail is required to have 12” of snow for sledding and may close due to snow conditions. Parking fees for Foxtail are $5 per vehicle, per day.
