Spring Break Safari at Springs Preserve

Monday, March 14 – Sunday, March 22, 9am -4pm

The Springs Preserve is extending its days of operation and its family-focused programming during the 2026 Clark County School District Spring Break. Normally closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the Springs Preserve will be open the entire week of March 14-22.

Programming offered throughout the week includes a desert dwellers wildlife safari, a nature badge class and other fun activities offered daily.

Toddler Time Kids’ Activity
Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays – Bearpoppy Classroom / 11 a.m.
Bring your little ones to the Springs Preserve for kid-friendly fun activities and stories with new themes weekly. Recommended for ages 5 and under.

Drop-in Demonstrations

Learn more about the Springs Preserve and the surrounding world at free drop-in activities located throughout the property. Meet with experts who share information on a variety of subjects ranging from Archaeology, Gardens, Zoology and more!

Ride the Train
Thursday through Monday
Trains helped settle the Old West and now they are a part of the present too! Jump aboard the Boomtown Express trackless train at the Exploration Loop Trailhead. Learn about local history as the narrated train ride whisks you back in time to Boomtown 1905, a recreated streetscape of early-1900s downtown Las Vegas.
Free for members or included with paid admission. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Train schedule subject to change based on weather and availability; check schedule when visiting the Springs Preserve.

WaterWorks Museum
Thursday through Monday / 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
WaterWorks Museum is an interactive, behind-the-scenes look at the inner-workings of water treatment and delivery in Southern Nevada. Learn about the challenges and triumphs of the journey of water. The exhibit, located in the Charleston Heights Pumping Station, is presented by the Las Vegas Valley Water District, Southern Nevada Water Authority and Springs Preserve, in partnership with ONE DROP™, with contributions from the RBC Blue Water Project and Springs Preserve Foundation.

Boomtown 1905
Thursday through Monday / 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Step back in time at Boomtown 1905, a recreated early Las Vegas streetscape. Explore historical re-creations of the original train depot, Arizona Club, Majestic Theatre, First State Bank, Lincoln Hotel, and Las Vegas Mercantile. Encounter interpretive, interactive exhibits and period décor to learn about early-1900s Las Vegas.

Springs Café

The Springs Café offers exceptional sandwiches, salads, brunch, and burgers. Made from fresh, healthy ingredients, menu items include vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options.

About the artist: Lindsey Quick holds two Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Nevada Teaching License with an endorsement in Art Education (K–12). She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Art Education online through the University of Florida. Lindsey has taught art professionally to students from kindergarten through high school and currently teaches at Coral Academy of Science.

Poetry Workshop
11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Instructor: Ms. AyeVee
Participants of all ages are invited to create a springtime acrostic poem using fun, illustrated coloring sheets in this intergenerational workshop designed to inspire creativity and connection.

About the Poet
Ms. AyeVee is an award-winning Afro-Latina Literary Artist from Las Vegas, NV. She is a woman of many hats with a passion for Poetry. Her work has been featured by the legendary All Def Poetry, Write About Now & Button Poetry. Ms. AyeVee has also been recognized by Las Vegas Book Festival, NPR & The US Congress for advancing the cause of literacy & extraordinary literary achievement. In 2022 Ms. AyeVee was selected as an official TEDx speaker for Las Vegas. She also runs a Las Vegas based poetry organization called, Beyond the Neon (@btnpoetry) that focuses on poetry exclusive events and community outreach. Ms. AyeVee is the 2024-2026 Clark County Poet Laureate & promoting her new poetry collection, Broken Silence.

About the Artist
Meghan Dragon is an artist born and raised in Las Vegas.
Her paintings, drawings and murals explore connections within the natural world, drawing primary inspiration from the flora and fauna of the Mojave Desert. With nine years of experience teaching elementary and middle school art, Meghan combines her background as an educator with a dedicated studio practice to create work that inspires curiosity and encourages appreciation for fragile habitats.

Nevada, P.S. I Love You Postcard Project

Drop by and join Nevada Humanities and create your own handmade postcard. Artist Bobbie Ann Howell will be on hand throughout the day helping you create a little art and write a message about what you love about Nevada. Nevada, P.S. Live Music with Ocotillo Wind Quintet

Ocotillo Wind Quintet was formed in 2023 and is comprised of graduate students from UNLV and established professionals/educators from the Las Vegas valley. They are excited to share their passion for music and education across Clark County by performing at unique venues. Ocotillo is committed to celebrating the diversity of Las Vegas through thoughtful programming and hopes to reach a wide audience through these innovative and collaborative performances. Members of Ocotillo include Resilda Lala on flute, Taylor Crawford on oboe, Jonathan Cannon on clarinet, Liz Valvano on bassoon, and Matthew Keenan on horn.

Live Music with Ukelele Hero Timothy Connolly

Deaf since the age of 3, Timothy was a professional singer, bandleader, and music producer in New York City for 25 years before moving to Las Vegas in 2018 for new adventures in the great American west. While singing remains a talent of his, it is the strumming of ukuleles which has become his greener pastures. Using his Fender gear, he strums a thousand songs.

Red Rock Canyon

Crafting in the Canyon
Thursday, March 19, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm
Red Rock Canyon

This month’s Crafting in the Canyon will focus on the amazing pollinators that are back to work as the flowers start blooming! Head over to the Red Springs Boardwalk area between 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM to immerse yourself in nature while we paint! Lead by an Interpretive Naturalist, learn about our primary pollinators while you paint your favorite one on a rock to take home! For this activity, we will paint with acrylics onto smooth round rocks to create a pollinator pet for you to keep.

All supplies will be provided, and the event is open to all while supplies last. This activity will have visitors painting along

This event does not take place along the Scenic Drive or at the Visitor Center. Parking will be at the Red Springs Picnic Area. The event will take place along the boardwalk, so please bring a towel or blanket to sit on for your comfort.

Interpretive programs at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area are a free public service. No registration is required for this program. If you plan to visit the Red Rock Canyon Scenic Drive or Visitor Center, please make a timed entry reservation at www.recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777.

When visiting Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, it is important to dress accordingly for the weather. It is recommended to wear sunscreen, appropriate footwear, bring a hat, sunglasses, and plenty of water. The pool is open daily, 10am – 6pm. Poolside dining is available and towels are provided.

Go Fishing

Floyd Lamb Park is only $6 per car for admission. Walk the trails or grab a pole and let the kids fish! You don’t need a fishing license for kids under 12.

Day Trip to St. George

There’s a lot of fun to be had in St. George, Utah from their state parks to an indoor ninja gym, recreation centers with indoor pools, museums, hiking, delicious restaurants, and all the family fun you can handle. Take a day trip or stay the night.

Pro Tip: It’s often cheapest to stay at the Casablanca Resort in Mesquite and their pool is AMAZING!

Day trip to Oatman, Arizona

A ghost town with resident wild burros and a restaurant that serves fry bread? Sign me up! Oatman is an easy day trip or you can stay the night in Kingman and explore more of Route 66 in Arizona.
