2-for-1 Admission Lift Off

Local Students Invited to “Lift Up” Classmates by Inviting Each Other to AREA15’s LIFTOFF Ride with 2-for-1 Admission in May 

During the month of May, local students are encouraged to “lift up” friends and classmates by inviting each other to experience AREA15’s LIFTOFF Ride. To prioritize the importance of developing personal connections with one another and overall mental wellness, riders with a valid school I.D. can enjoy two-for-one admission.

LIFTOFF is a slow-moving, observation tower-type ride that lifts up sixteen riders to heights in excess of 100 feet while strapped into a comfortable seat. The ride offers panoramic views of the Strip and the beautiful mountains that surround the city.

Warm Springs Natural Area, located in the upper Moapa Valley approximately one-hour from Las Vegas, is a 1,250-acre property features more than two dozen bubbling springs, rushing streams and lush wetlands. It is also home to nearly 30 sensitive animal species, including the Moapa dace, and more than 200 species of birds. A short walk from the Warm Springs Natural Area is the Moapa Valley National Wildlife Refuge, where you can stroll through a spring and stream system where dragonflies and birds can be observed, view the underwater world of fish through a stream profile window, enjoy a family picnic in a pavilion with shaded tables, and more.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Foundation and LVMPD in partnership with UNLV Early Outreach Program will host the 2nd Annual Soccer Extravaganza for students grades 3- 5.  Students will compete in soccer games organized by LVMPD Area Commands.  All levels of soccer players welcome. 

 LVMPD, Las Vegas Mayor’s Cup, UNLV Rebels soccer teams, and Las Vegas Lights FC organize the soccer games to promote good sportsmanship, athletic skill, accountability, discipline, teamwork, and goal setting.  Last year, more than 500 youth participated, and this year is expected to draw similar numbers.

Shakespeare’s classic “The Tempest” is coming to Water Street Plaza Amphitheater for six nights of performances with opening night on Thursday, May 18.

Shakespeare’s dramatic tale is brought to life in a theatrical performance by actors with the Nevada Shakespeare Festival during City of Henderson’s Shakespeare on the Plaza.

Master Illusionist Rod Raven portrays the tortured Prospero in this magical adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s last and most beloved plays. Mystical island creatures, love at first sight and shipwrecked nemesis collide to bring you a tale of betrayal and new beginnings.

Tickets are $15 and are available for purchase online at cityofhenderson.com. Performances run from May 18 through May 20 and from May 25 through May 27.

Skye Canyon Patriotic Car Parade

Saturday,  May 27, beginning 930am

Back by popular demand and in celebration of Memorial Day 2023, Skye Canyon is hosting its fourth Annual Patriotic Car Parade on Saturday, May 27. An opportunity for families to show off their patriotic spirit, community pride, and creativity, this year’s event also helps support Kline Veterans Fund, one of the community’s charity partners.

For a $10 donation, families can register for a spot in the car parade. Decorate the vehicle in red, white, and blue, and show your spirit. Register your car for the parade and learn more at www.skyecanyon/parade.

The Patriotic Car Parade will originate and end at Skye Canyon Park with cars lining up at 9:30 am. The official Car Parade will begin at 10:15 am and will be led by a themed float and representatives from Kline Veterans Fund as it makes its way on a three-mile journey throughout the Skye Canyon neighborhoods on a designated route.

Participating vehicles will receive a collectible commemorative Skye Canyon Event Pin. Enjoy music, food trucks, face painting, inflatable games and activities, giveaways, and more at the family-focused Memorial Day celebration after the parade.

Celebrate National Bike month with the City of Henderson. Light up your bike for a family-friendly night ride around Cornerstone Park. All participants are required to bring a bike and a helmet. Neon bike decorations and glow bracelets will be provided for all participants.
