Join us for the 2023 Engelstad Traveling Exhibition Series feature: Water’s Extreme Journey. This interactive maze that takes visitors on a wild role-playing adventure where they are transformed into a raindrop and challenged to stay clean. Visitors are sent on a journey through mountains, streams and even their own backyards, where everyday decisions impact their chance of staying clean and reaching a healthy ocean.

Apparitions of the Ice Age

Centennial Hills Library

“Discovery Day” is open to participants of all ages. Highlights include encounters with live desert creatures, crafts and activities, and a full range of interpretive and interactive exhibits. Mascots Mojave Max and Tommy the Turtle will share in the fun. Inside the Nature Center, kids will enjoy hopping through the Cottontail Challenge, building a wetlands landscape, and creating a critter.
 
Partnering organizations will offer suggested activities families can do all summer with their kids. The Wetlands Park Nature Store will be open during the event, where shoppers can find nature themed gifts, apparel, books, jewelry and more.

Astronomy in the Park – Mt. Charleston

 
Join us for a completely free Astronomy in the Park stargazing event at the beautiful Spring Mountain Visitor Gateway on Mt. Charleston. The public will be able to view through the telescopes of volunteer members of the Las Vegas Astronomical Society.
We’ll be able to show you a supernova in M101 the Pinwheel Galaxy, Mars, Venus, M17 the Swan Nebula, the M13 globular star cluster, M27 the Dumbbell Nebula, and other bright nebulae, galaxies, and star clusters.
 
Our guest speaker for the 7:30 PM presentation in the amphitheater will be Sierra Ramsey. She’s a PhD candidate in Geoscience at UNLV who studies meteorites, and will bring sample meteorites you can touch!
 
It may be July, but be sure to bring a jacket/warm layers to put on as temps can drop quickly on the mountain when the Sun goes down. They’ll also be selling snacks and drinks that go toward funding visitor center activities.

Bat Walk at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park

Join the Nevada Department of Wildlife for a Bat Walk. NDOW will have their high-tech device to listen for bats and identify what bats are flitting in the canyon. Plan to arrive at the park at 7:00 pm before the gate closes. Enjoy a quick snack and bathroom break. The hike starts promptly at 7:30 pm. Once the hike begins late comers will not be able to access the trail.
