Celebrating Black History Through Music

Join Nevada Chamber Orchestra and immerse yourself in the captivating melodies and harmonies that highlight the incredible works of historically significant Black composers.
Delve into the brilliance of 18th Century Joseph Bologne, Le Chevalier de Saint Georges, a trailblazing figure in classical-era music and currently the subject of a major motion picture. Experience the emotional depth of Carlos Simon’s An Elegy for String Orchestra and George Walker’s evocative Lyric for String Orchestra. Discover the timeless beauty of Florence Price’s Adoration for Strings and indulge in the syncopated rhythms of Scott Joplin’s iconic ragtime pieces, including Maple Leaf, The Easy Winners, and The Entertainer. The concert concludes with Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s resplendent Black Dance, reflecting the vibrant spirit of African heritage.
