Create a Mini Tecuani Mask with Vanessa Maciel

October 1 @ 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Come celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, learn about the history and legend of the Tecuani mask, and create your own, one-of-a-kind mini Tecuani mask during one of these 2-hour workshops presented by Vanessa Maciel.
Vanessa was born in Ocotlan, Jalisco Mexico and she studied the folk-art tradition of Cartoneria at the Instituto Cultural Cabanas in Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico. Cartoneria, known as paper mâché, is passed from one artisan to another using the traditional materials of paper and engrudo (glue of flour and water).
Vanessa’s passion for art began in her hometown where she learned folkloric dance at the age of 10. She studied the dances and learned learning about they represented different states in Mexico and their meanings. From that time forward, she wanted to learn more about her culture and traditions. Her desire to learn more about the traditional arts of Mexico led her to the mixed media artwork she creates today.
This program is designed for adults ages 15 and up.
Free and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis and may be limited.
