Scorpion Search Night Hike

Have you ever wanted to know more about the scorpions of the Mojave Desert and search for them in their natural habitat using blacklights? Well now is your chance!
Join a Bureau of Land Management Ranger for a fun night hike in Red Rock Canyon where we will search for these fascinating arachnids, learn more about them, and their importance in an ecosystem and to us!
The location of this hike will be given once registered.
We will hike for approximately 45 minutes each way, and as the sun sets and nighttime falls on the desert, we will break out the blacklights to search for scorpions.
This trail is rated as easy/moderate, and has some areas of uneven, rocky terrain, since we will be hiking at night prior hiking experience is suggested. We will hike approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) total, with an elevation gain of 300 ft (~90 m).
Interpretive programs at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area are a free public service.
Advance registration at scorpion-search-night-hike.timetap.com is required to attend this program.
When visiting Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, it is important to dress accordingly for the weather. It is recommended to wear sunscreen, appropriate footwear, bring a hat, sunglasses, and plenty of water.
